Wetumka

Wetumka, Oklahoma, in northern Hughes County, was settled by Muscogee Creek after the 1830s removal and named for their ancestral town; the name means "rumbling waters." It prospered as a shipping point after a railroad arrived in 1900-1901. A brief oil boom started in 1919. The city had a population of 1,135 in 2020.
