POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Manager of Program Outreach, the Outreach Assistant plays a key role in independently developing, coordinating, and delivering outreach programs and initiatives of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame | Gaylord-Pickens Museum. This position requires a proactive approach to community engagement, with minimal supervision and a strong ability to represent the Museum in diverse settings. Work schedule will be 15-20 hours per week with evening and weekend availability required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in developing engaging, age-appropriate educational content for schools, libraries, community centers, and public events.
  • Lead outreach activities and presentations at off-site locations, serving as the primary representative of the Museum.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with community partners, educators, and event organizers.
  • Represent the Museum at tabling events, resource fairs, and other public-facing opportunities.
  • Assist logistics and upkeep of the Oklahoma Through Its People traveling exhibits, including scheduling and transportation.
  • Collaborate with the Museum Experience Team on special projects and events.
  • Identify new outreach opportunities and propose innovative programming ideas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in public speaking, performance, education, or community engagement preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in Museum programming, arts, or cultural education.

  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Comfortable leading groups and engaging diverse audiences.
  • Professional and positive interpersonal communication, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to represent the Oklahoma Hall of Fame | Gaylord-Pickens Museum with enthusiasm and integrity.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand; must have visual acuity to read and draft reports, memorandums, and other printed matter, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee will work year-round in both an office environment and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud; situations characteristic to working with school-age children are common; and travel to other sites within the metropolitan area are possible.
