Biography
Oklahoma native W.R. “Dick” Stubbs was the son of a coal miner and lived throughout his life, except for his service in the U.S. Army during World War II, in Henryetta. He started his career as a truck driver and developed his own trucking company “from scratch.” He was also the mayor of Henryetta for ten years and served as chairman of the board of Green Country, Inc., a 21-county organization created for the promotion of industry and tourism in Eastern Oklahoma. Stubbs distinguished himself on many boards including the Northeastern Oklahoma State University (now Northeastern State University) Education Foundation, the Oklahoma Good Roads and Streets Association, and served on the Oklahoma Bicentennial Commission.
Fun fact
W.R. “Dick” Stubbs was a commercial pilot with a single and multi-engine rating on land and sea. He also carried an instrument rating and flew his own twin-engine airplane.
