Dr. John Montgomery: Brighten the Corner Where You Are
This exhibit presents a timeline of Dr. John W. Montgomery's career as a leader in civics and agriculture. It tells the story of a selfless Oklahoman who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others.
Dr. John W. Montgomery is considered one of the most influential citizens of southeast Oklahoma. He was a groundbreaking veterinarian and he opened one of the first licensed veterinary clinics in LeFlore County. Montgomery was also a local leader in the Civil Rights movement, never shying away from standing up for what was right and sincerely wanting to improve the quality of life for everyone. He worked tirelessly to provide educational opportunities for students in his hometown and across the state. He was a monumental man and a proud citizen of Poteau, Oklahoma.
