Neil Garrison

Neil Garrison served as Head Naturalist at Martin Park Nature Center from 1978 to 2009. His responsibilities included managing flood waters, chasing down errant racoons, nurturing prairie dogs and other wildlife, and giving guided tours of the multiple nature trails while living in the Park. Garrison ensured Martin Park Nature Center had a proud history of accessibility and provided free educational programming for kids and adults, all while keeping a watchful eye on the furry and feathered friends who live there. Now retired, he continues to lead hikes, sharing his love for and deep knowledge of Martin Park and nature.

Martin Park Nature Center: A History and Guide

Explore the past and present of one of Oklahoma City’s most beloved green spaces. This book covers the history of Martin Park, including the time when it was home to Native Americans, the purchase of the land in 1962, the park's official opening in 1975, and its 50th anniversary celebration in May 2025. Behind the Park are many people who have made it a place of respite, reflection, and rejuvenation, in addition to preserving and protecting it. This book is also a guide to the Martin Park Trails and Nature Center.
