Words of Destiny: Writings that Shaped Oklahoma

Words of Destiny tells the story of Oklahoma from the founding of the nation through the Louisiana Purchase, treaties that brought American Indians to Indian Territory, documents of statehood, and a century of legislation and constitutional amendments. Oklahoma's bold and exciting story is more than a saga of official writings, songs, and books. It is also more than a fabric woven of events and places, although our heritage is rich with stories of land runs, oil discoveries, and frontier justice. Our story is about our people who envisioned the new state as a melting pot of American Indians, pioneer settlers, and men and women who would brave the elements of the unknown land to carve for themselves a new home.
