Biography
Oklahoma native George S. Benson was a graduate of Kingfisher High School and received eight degrees from colleges including Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University) in 1924, the University of Chicago in 1931, Oklahoma Christian College (now Oklahoma Christian University) in 1968, and Freed-Hardeman College, in Henderson, Tennessee (now Freed-Hardeman University), in 1981. He served as a missionary to China (1925-1936) and founded and served as president of Canton Bible School in Guangzhou, China (1930-1936), and served as president of Harding University (1936-1965) in Arkansas. He was also the first Chancellor of Oklahoma Christian College (now Oklahoma Christian University) from 1957 to 1967 and founded the National Education Program.
Fun fact
Dr. George Benson began producing his international radio program, “Land of the Free,” in 1942, and 25 million people listened in as he explained the American way of life, how it worked, and its advantages.
