Biography
Oklahoma native James Doyle Berry attended Sapulpa High School, Culver Military Academy, the University of Oklahoma, and the Harvard University Graduate School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1950, he began his career in Dallas with the Republic National Bank and was named president of the Republic of Texas Corporation in 1974. His civic involvement included the board of governors of the American Red Cross and Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. He also received the American Jewish Committee Institute of Human Relations Award.
Fun fact
James D. Berry was on an African big game hunt with friends when they decided to camp near the juncture of two rivers. The site turned out to be located on a natural game trail. The group was nearly trampled by a small herd of elephants and later that same night a large herd of hippos.
