Biography
Maude Richman Calvert was born in Kansas and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater in 1916 (now Oklahoma State University). After receiving her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, she took a teaching position at Columbia University in New York and began working on her doctorate. She soon returned to Oklahoma as supervisor of home economics for the state.
The author of several textbooks, she was the editor of Oklahoma Parent-Teacher Magazine and was named Oklahoma City’s Most Useful Citizen in 1935. Oklahomans honored her as their Woman of the Year in 1946.

Maude Calvert’s books, Everyday Living for Boys and Girls, First Course in Homemaking, and Second Course in Homemaking, were standard school textbooks in 37 states across America throughout the 1920s.
