Oklahoma native Frederick A. Daugherty graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1932 and received his law degree in 1933 from Cumberland University, with post-graduate study at Oklahoma City University and the University of Oklahoma. He was called to duty with the 45th Division in 1940 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Although he returned to his law practice in 1946, he continued his connection with the military and spent two more years on active duty with the 45th Division during the Korean Conflict. He became a Brigadier General in 1952 and a Major General in 1960, serving as the Commanding General for the 45th for four years. Judge Daugherty left his large private practice in 1955 to become Oklahoma District Court Judge and was appointed U.S. District Judge (1961-1996). He received the Oklahoma City Sertoma Club’s Award to Mankind in 1962, the Junior Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Citizenship Award in 1969, and the Marian P. Opala Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. In 2000, he established an endowed position at the OU College of Law.
