Biography
John B. Doolin, a native of Missouri, first came to Oklahoma around 1900 to enter the retail clothing business in Alva. He was elected registrar of deeds for Woods County in 1902 and later worked in the business of farm loans and abstracts. In 1908, Doolin was the assistant treasurer of the National Democratic Campaign Committee and successfully managed the gubernatorial race of Oklahoma Governor Lee Cruce in 1911. Cruce appointed him as the state Fish and Game Warden in 1911. In 1912, he helped develop the successful Schulter Field in Okmulgee County and was the director of numerous business and civic organizations.
Fun fact
From 1911 to 1913, John Doolin was Oklahoma’s fish and game warden and wrote three books on the subject – Field, Forest and Stream; Outdoor Oklahoma; and Bird Day in Oklahoma.
