Biography
Oklahoma native Dr. Gilbert Carl Gibson, Sr., attended Oklahoma State University and the University of Missouri and practiced dentistry in Lawton for 11 years. After an extended illness, he entered the business world in 1972 and became the founding director and chairman of both Citizens Bank and First Commercial Bank in Lawton. He has served on the boards of various other financial institutions and was appointed by federal regulators to the boards of two restructured failed thrifts under federal control in the 1980s. He also serves on the Oklahoma Board of IBC Bank and his local and state-wide civic activities include past chairman of both the Lawton/Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce and the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation Commission. He was appointed Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Oklahoma in 1994 and was elected to the National Board of the Armed Services YMCA.
Fun fact
Although he grew up interested in business, Gilbert Gibson first earned a doctor of dental surgery degree in 1958 and operated his dental practice in Lawton until 1969, when he developed osteoarthritis and gout and was unable to work until 1972.
