Longtime editor of the Tulsa Daily World and president of the World Publishing Company, Norris Gifford Henthorne was a noted journalist and actively involved in civic affairs throughout his life. He organized the Tulsa Kiwanis Club in 1918 and served as the president of the Tulsa Public Health Association from 1921 to 1940. His long tenure on the Tulsa Parks Board introduced the “wading pool program” and an eight-acre park was named to honor his tireless efforts for the city. A director of the Chamber of Commerce, Henthorne was also chairman of the Tulsa Airport Authority at the creation of the city’s international airport and served on the Will Rogers Memorial Committee. Named by the Tulsa Press Club as a “Headliner,” he was a former president of the club and also served as president of the Oklahoma Press Association in 1934.
