Jacob Raymond “J. R.” Hinshaw was born in 1896 in Missouri and moved to Oklahoma in 1898. He received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Oklahoma in Norman and for many years was a practicing physician and surgeon in the Sunnyside Hospital in Butler, Oklahoma. Dr. Hinshaw was on the staff of the Western Oklahoma Charity Hospital in Clinton, Oklahoma, and the Standifer Hospital in Elk City. He was listed in the Who’s Who in American Medicine in 1926 and in Who’s Who in Oklahoma in 1935, and authored many works that furthered the study of his profession. Dr. Hinshaw was a highly respected and sought-after speaker in the United States and Rochester Medical School dedicated a page of the 1964 yearbook to Dr. Hinshaw listing him as a “favorite teacher.”
