Biography

Stephen James Jatras was born in Pennsylvania and graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University (1947) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1952). He was a Sloan Fellow in the Stanford Graduate School of Business (1958) and became an electrical engineer instructor and a research engineer before working at Memorex Telex Corporation and its subsidiaries in 1965. He served as Chairman and President of the company from 1988 to 1990 and remained active in numerous civic and professional organizations, including Tulsa Area United Way, St. John Medical Center, and the Tulsa Area Salvation Army. He also served as chairman of the Tulsa River Parks Authority and was the sole contributor of a half mile of contiguous land along the Arkansas River.

Fun fact

Stephen Jatras was the recipient of the Boy Scouts' Silver Beaver Award in 1988 and the Salvation Army's Others Award in 1996. In 1992 he was honored with the United Way's Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award for community service in recognition of more than a decade of service and leadership in the United Way.
