Biography
Mabelle Kennedy is a native of Missouri and attended Oaklawn Girls’ Boarding School before she married Edmund T. Kennedy in 1908. She became a member of the board of directors of his National Bank of Commerce in Pawhuska in 1936, received her Banking degree in 1937, and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1938. Following her husband’s death in 1936, she managed the family’s ranch lands in Osage County and served as National Democratic Woman from Oklahoma. She was a member of the U. S. Goodwill Mission to Brazil and named an Honorary Citizen of Texas.
Fun fact
Mabelle Kennedy was appointed as Assistant Treasurer of the U.S. by President Harry Truman in 1951. In 1975 a section of U.S. Highway 60 between Pawhuska and Ponca City was named in her honor.
Oklahoma connections
Kennedy came first to Enid, Oklahoma, then Fairfax at the age of 10.
