Biography
Nationally known news commentator and Oklahoma native James Kilpatrick, Jr., began his newspaper career at the age of twelve as a copy boy for the Oklahoma City Times. He graduated from the University of Missouri and became a reporter for the Richmond News Leader in Virginia, where he later became an editorial writer and finally, editor, until his retirement in 1967. His column, “The Conservative View,” was published in more than 400 newspapers and he became famous as the conservative voice on “Point - Counter Point” and “60 Minutes.” He received the William Allen White Foundation Award for journalistic merit in 1979.
Fun fact
James Kilpatrick’s father owned Big K Lumber Company in Oklahoma City and donated all of the lumber to build the grandstand for the Oklahoma City Indians baseball team. This earned father and son a box seat pass to every afternoon game.
