Biography
Native Oklahoman and University of Oklahoma graduate (1930) Lowe Runkle entered the advertising business in the early 1930s and quickly became vice president of the Glenn Advertising Agency. He then served in the Air Force before returning to Oklahoma City to become the president of several organizations including the Oklahoma City Ad Club, Southwestern Association of Advertising Agencies, Advertising and Marketing International Network, Metropolitan Board of Directors of the YMCA, and the Oklahoma Zoological Society. He was a director and vice president of the Oklahoma Heritage Association (now the Oklahoma Hall of Fame) and directed the Hero Bond Issue to provide funding for the Oklahoma Medical Center. He was later appointed chairman of the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Commission.
Fun fact
Lowe Runkle became known as Oklahoma City’s “Mr. Advertising” when he became the first Oklahoman to receive the Silver Medal Award of the Advertising Federation of America. In 1973, he became the first non-lawyer to receive the Herbert Lincoln Harley Award from the American Judicature Society.
