Joe C. Scott was born in Texas but from the age of 7, lived his life in Oklahoma. Until his death, Scott operated the original family farm near Rattan, Oklahoma. Scott was educated in rural schools and his A. B. from Southeastern State College (now Southeastern Oklahoma State University) in Durant. In 1933, he earned a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics in Stillwater at Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University) and completed significant work towards a doctorate at the University of Oklahoma in the same field. He was a teacher and school superintendent, and Assistant State Superintendent of Schools during the first sixteen years of his career. He was Business Manager of Southeastern State College, President of Progressive Savings and Loan Association, President of the Oklahoma State Board of Agriculture, and president and major owner of Bankers Service Life Insurance Company of Oklahoma City from 1949 until his death. A member and contributor to the Oklahoma Science Research Association and the Oklahoma Writers Association, Scott was the author of three books. He was also a member of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Foreign Trade Mission to Latin America and was an economic consultant to various shipping lines and international trading companies cooperating in Latin America and Canada.
