Oklahoma native Harold Cutliff Stuart was born on the 4th of July and graduated in 1930 from Classen High School in Oklahoma City before receiving his law degree from the University of Virginia (1936). He then moved to Tulsa and worked in his grandfather’s firm, Stuart and Doerner. In 1941, Harold was appointed as Judge of the Common Pleas Court for the State of Oklahoma, which at that time, made Mr. Stuart the youngest judge in the state. In early 1942, he resigned his Judgeship and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served in the Combat and Air Intelligence before retiring in 1946. He returned to Tulsa to practice law and was then appointed Asst. Secretary of the Air Force (1949-1951). He also served as an advisor to the International Rodeo Association and International Finals Rodeo and was inducted into the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame in 1981. In 1989, with his wife, he established “Indian Territory Awards,” two new awards to be presented to organizations and educators preserving state history and in 1991 received the Pioneer Award from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters and the Clarence E. Page Memorial Trophy for his contributions made in aviation from the Oklahoma Aviation Hall of Fame.
