Dean of the Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) School of Home Economics for 27 years, Nora Amaryllis Talbot was born in Nebraska and settled with her parents and six siblings near Stillwater in 1892. She graduated from Central State Normal School (now the University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond with her music degree in 1907, and returned to teach music in Stillwater and in Kansas before receiving another degree in home economics from OSU. Mrs. Talbot taught courses at Nowata and Muskogee and then returned to OSU in 1916, as head of the Household Arts Department. Eight years later she became Dean. Mrs. Talbot also received a master’s degree from Columbia University in 1921, and furthered her graduated studies at Harvard University in 1929 and 1930. Dean Talbot originated a home economics course for men in 1926, and, in 1939 and 1940, she added a department called Home Life, in which a course in marriage was offered for the first time.
