Create, learn, and explore in our Makerspace! This space features a variety of STEAM-based learning activities, custom murals created by local artist Kris Kanaly, an Oklahoma-themed scavenger hunt, and a sensory wall that encourages tactile sensory exploration for younger visitors.

Scavenger Hunt Symbols:

  1. Devon Tower – Standing at a height of 844 feet and with 50 stories, the Devon Tower is the tallest building in Oklahoma City and the state of Oklahoma. Devon Tower has become an easily identifiable part of the Oklahoma City skyline since its opening in 2012.
  2. Oklahoma State Capitol – The Oklahoma State Capitol building is primarily made of white limestone and Oklahoma pink granite. Inside, a painting shows the Five Moons…five Native American ballerinas from Oklahoma. In 2016 and 2019, episodes of American Ninja Warrior were filmed in front of the building.
  3. Golden Driller – At 76 feet tall, the Golden Driller is the seventh-tallest statue in the United States. It is made of steel, concrete, and plaster, making it able to withstand tornados.
  4. Blue Whale of Catoosa – The 20-foot-tall, 80-foot-long Blue Whale was built by zoologist Hugh S. Grant in 1972 as an anniversary gift to his wife. Nicknamed "Bluey", the Blue Whale has remained a popular tourist destination along Route 66.
  5. Wind Turbine – There are more than 5,500 wind turbines in Oklahoma. Modern wind turbines can be as tall as the Statue of Liberty and have blades the length of a football field.
  6. Blue Dome – A popular landmark along historic Route 66, the blue dome building was originally Tulsa’s first 24-hour gas station. Now, it’s at the center of many popular restaurants, shops, and concert venues.
  7. American Bison – Male bison can weigh up to 2,200 pounds and primarily eat grass, weeds, and leafy plants for up to 11 hours each day. Despite weighing so much, they can still run faster than a horse. The bison is Oklahoma’s state mammal.
  8. Crystal Bridge – The Crystal Bridge is the centerpiece of Myriad Botanical Gardens. Made of more than 3,000 pieces of acrylic panels, the building houses a wide variety of tropical plants, multiple art sculptures, and a two-level waterfall.
  9. Oklahoma Shield – The Oklahoma state flag shows an Osage war shield with a calumet (peace pipe), olive branch, crosses, and eagle feathers. Together, the image symbolizes “a people united by peace”.
  10. Gold Dome – Famous for its unique architecture, the Gold Dome building has been home to a bank, a cultural center, office space, an art gallery, and even a restaurant.
  11. Rocket – Oklahoma astronaut, Leroy Gordon Cooper, Jr., flew the longest Mercury mission to outer space on the Faith 7 rocket, flying around the Earth 22 times.
  12. Basketball – The first basketball game was played with a soccer ball, and peach baskets were used instead of netted hoops. Basketball is a popular sport in Oklahoma, especially since the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA basketball team was founded in 2008.
  13. Oil Derrick – Oil was first discovered in Oklahoma by accident in 1859 when trying to drill for salt. Today, oil is used to make everything from car gasoline and airplane fuel to computers and crayons.
  14. Newspaper – Oklahoma’s first newspaper, the Cherokee Advocate, was published in 1844 and was printed in both English and Cherokee languages.
